We are pleased to announce the recipients of two awards that will be presented at Dinner for Doors this year:
The Kent Hehr Leadership Award presented to Darby Lee Young; and The Heart of Community Award presented to Allan James (Jim) Monk.
These two amazing Calgarians are doing important work in our city to create a more inclusive community for everyone.
Darby’s passion, perseverance and energy for accessibility led her to recently create a new business called Level Playing Field. Level Playing Field focuses on providing universal design solutions and with Darby at the helm, her dream of a barrier-free society could just become a reality.
Jim has been called “a genius” at stirring the imaginations of the people he encounters through his dedication as a volunteer at the Tetra Society of Calgary. Personable and approachable, he has tireless energy for serving clients with a disability, for invigorating the Tetra volunteers who work with those clients, and for building a more inclusive Calgary.
Congratulations to the recipients and thank you to all the nominators for your inspiring submissions. The Kent Hehr Leadership Award Committee, comprised of volunteers from Dinner for Doors Presenting Sponsor, First Calgary, met in early September to review the nominations and choose a recipient. Thank you to the Committee for offering your time and talent. Calgary is well on our way to becoming inclusive and accessible with all the leaders, conveners and inspiring people in our midst.
To learn more about Darby and Jim, attend Dinner for Doors on October 12.
