Students Show Compassion

We would like to send a big thank you to the Calgary Foundation and the grade 6 students from Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School for their dedication to strengthening our community.

Twelve groups of grade 6 students from Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School participated in different learning experiences as part of this year’s Primary Years Programme (PYPX) Exhibition. Each group chose a Calgary non-profit organization to research and present on at the Exhibition assembly. A few Accessible Housing team members presented to the grade 6 students and gave them the opportunity to experience mobility challenges during the presentation, wearing oven mitts (dexterity) and sight-reducing sunglasses. The students navigated the room with their mobility impairments which helped them understand some of the challenges our clients with physical limitations face.

Three of these students then made an amazing, compassionate presentation in front of their peers, teachers, parents and judges about the important work of Accessible Housing. They even made the judges use oven mitts and darkened glasses to simulate limited mobility.

A few weeks later, the students invited all of the non-profit organizations back to the school to receive a generous donation from the Calgary Foundation.

We would like to thank all of the students for their hard work and dedication – you have made a big impact on the lives of Calgarians!
