Dinner for Doors 2014
On Thursday November 13th we gathered for a sold-out event with community-lovers, our supporters and inspiring Calgarians for our first Dinner for Doors event, held at the Executive Royal Hotel. Through this generous support, we raised $28,003 that will open doors to homes that are accessible and affordable for people with limited mobility.
Guests were given a profile when they arrived and spent the evening in a wheelchair, using a walker or a cane to get around. Some of the guests were given sight-reducing eye-glasses and oven mitts to simulate some of the challenges our clients with physical limitations face. Each person had a “story” to read about an individual that faces this challenge every day.

MLA Dr. David Swann spoke about his recent experience of spending a day in a wheelchair and his appreciation for accessible design and inclusion.
Our special guest speaker and client Stewart Midwinter shared his personal story of “Ability to Disability – and then what?” moving the audience to give him a standing ovation.
We thank our sponsors for their generosity in helping us open more doors to homes so that everyone belongs in community.
