Team Accessible Sets Records
Congratulations and thank you to the dedicated, hard-working runners and rollers that raced to raise money and awareness on Sunday, May 31 at the Scotiabank Calgary Marathon.
Together Team Accessible raised over $40,000 to support Calgarians who deserve accessible, affordable homes where they can thrive, dream and be part of community. We were the top fundraising team in the Marathon this year, plus Jeff Dyer, Accessible Housing’s Executive Director was the 4th place fundraiser overall, and we had 6 teammates places in the top 100!
Several performance personal records were set including one by Brian Martin who rolled in the men’s Wheelchair Ultra Marathon (50 kilometres) division 45 minutes faster than last year at 3:27. Louise was first place in her division running 3:25 in the Marathon and Tyler set a new personal record in the Half Marathon in just 1:34.
In the stands, big high-fives and sugary snacks were provided by our cheerleading volunteers who enjoyed the beautiful sunny Sunday festivities. Highlights included watching Accessible Housing caseworker Michael cross the finish line in a mullet wig and pink tutu, seeing Julie get sideline support from her fiancé Stewart, an Accessible Housing client, and last-but-not-least: checking out the beer gardens well before noon for a much-deserved cold one and greasy fries. It is still possible to make donations to the Accessible Housing at www.calgarymarathon.com
