The Delaney: New affordable and accessible homes

Trico Homes held a sod-turning celebration for its 44-unit Delaney development on October 20th, 2016. The building will be located in the community of Mount Pleasant, with 12 apartments earmarked as affordable, which means they’ll be rented for 10 per cent less than the average market rate. Ten of those 12 will be wheelchair accessible.

The Delaney will create much needed accessible and affordable housing in our community.

“This is an exciting project for Trico because the Delaney will be a rental building that also addresses needs for both affordable and accessible housing in Calgary,” says Trico’s vice-president of marketing Wanda Palmer. “In addition, the Delaney has over 3,000 square feet of commercial space that will be leased at a below-market rate to Accessible Housing, a local not-for-profit organization.”

Trico Homes was provided with a $2.5-million Housing Capital Initiatives grant from the Alberta government to help fund the project, and this new partnership validates the commitment of Trico Homes and the province to create affordable and barrier-free housing for the Calgary community.

“This property not only holds the future home for many individuals, it reminds me of this incredible power of joining together to create inclusive, healthy and resilient communities,” says Jeff Dyer, CEO, Accessible Housing.

We are thankful for this collaboration between Trico Homes and the Government of Alberta to create more affordable and accessible homes in our community.
